PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia doctor was sentenced to prison time and ordered to pay a hefty fine for illegally doling out opioids for sex and money, federal authorities said. Acting United States Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams said Myron Rodos, 80, of Ambler, was sentenced to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a fine of $300,000 for distributing controlled substances, namely opioids, outside the course of professional conduct and not for a legitimate medical purpose. Rodos pleaded guilty in November 2019 to four counts of distribution of Schedule II controlled substances, and stipulated that he illegally distributed 6,130 30-milligram oxycodone pills and 3,670 10-milligram methadone pills to patients in exchange for sex and money. Rodos, a physician, operated a medical practice in North Philadelphia as a prescription "pill mill" where he prescribed dangerous and addictive controlled substances to addicts for cash, and often in exchange for sex. The charges resulted from a lengthy FBI investigation that produced audio and videotape recordings made by a civilian source and an undercover agent that showed Rodos prescribe medically unnecessary hydrocodone in exchange for cash. Additionally, female patients who became drug addicts while under the Rodos's "care" reported to FBI agents that they routinely obtained prescriptions from Rodos for oxycodone and other controlled substances in exchange for sexual favors.
