Description

GILROY, CA — The city of Gilroy will prohibit smoking in public parks after the city council unanimously adopted an ordinance banning tobacco usage in parks during Monday's meeting. According to a staff report, Gilroy was just one of three cities in Santa Clara County that had banned tobacco in public parks as of July 2020 — Mountain View and Los Altos Hills were the other two. A few months later, the council moved to recommend changing the city code to ban designated smoking areas at city parks, and it approved an ordinance at its last meeting. The ordinance will take effect in 30 days.
