***APPLY ONLINE AT: www.GreshamOregon.gov/jobs*** The City of Gresham is seeking skilled individuals to work as seasonal Public Utility Worker 2's (PUW) in our Transportation and Wastewater Divisions located at the City of Gresham Operations Center. These will be temporary assignments for six months. These are seasonal positions and not eligible for benefits, other than Oregon Sick Leave. Gresham, the fourth largest city in the state of Oregon, is located between Portland and Mount Hood near the scenic Columbia River Gorge. The City boasts a proud, diverse and growing population. These positions play an important role in the daily infrastructure maintenance and repair needs of the community. If you are looking to make a difference, we want you! This position is distinguished from the Seasonal Public Utility Worker I position by the performance of more complex work functions, including the requirement to have a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake Endorsement (needed to perform certain functions). There are several positions available. Work will begin on May 3, 2021 and run through November 3, 2021. These are seasonal positions and not eligible for benefits, other than Oregon Sick Leave. Learn more by watching this short video: We want someone who is willing to learn, work hard, show up on time each day with a good attitude, and can get along well with others while taking direction from supervisors. We will train the right person on all tasks to be performed. Seasonal employees support good roadways, inviting parks for citizens to enjoy, clean water delivery, and environmentally sound processing of storm water and sewer waste. As a PUW 2, you will perform installation, maintenance, repair and testing activities on the City's sewer or streets systems and related facilities. To accomplish this work, you will be required to operate a dump truck with a trailer, a variety tools and equipment such as: shovels, picks, hand and riding mowers, tapping machine, power hacksaws, drills, welders, jackhammers, compressors and portable concrete saws. For some work tasks, you may operate a variety of heavy equipment including backhoes, loaders, pavers, rollers, Vac-Cons and tractors. Work is performed both alone and as part of a team; mostly outside in varying weather conditions for long periods of time. There may be exposure to loud noises, sewer systems, hot tar and asphalt, gasses, fumes, paint chemicals and pesticides, and some risk of physical hazard from equipment. This position involves constant movement and occasional lifting of heavy objects. You will need to learn and understand basic maintenance and repair methods used in your assigned area. Learning and applying all safety practices and procedures are needed including the operation of light equipment and tools. You will use your computer skills to record data and information related to your work. Since the nature of this work involves physical movement, your strength and agility are required to perform manual labor. Since the weather conditions can vary, your adaptability to conditions that may be uncomfortable is of great importance. We welcome your good communication skills to interact with other City employees and citizens in a courteous manner. There will be times that you will drive City vehicles which will involve completion of pre-trip inspections and safe, practical driving skills. Your work will be done in a team environment with some tasks being done alone. Minimum Qualifications: • High school graduate or GED. • Valid Commercial driver's license (CDL) with air brake endorsement. • Good driving record (based on our driving matrix) • No previous DOT drug testing violations. • Must understand instructions in English, both orally and in writing. • Must be at least 18 years of age on hire date. • Must have the physical ability to life objects and equipment ranging from 25 to 85 pounds and perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. • Must have effective communication skills.
