Receives general and specific assignments with some latitude for use of independent judgment in line with job assignment. General Purpose of the Position: The purpose of this position is to perform responsible janitorial and semi-skilled duties in the maintenance of City Hall, Auditorium and Police Department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Clean and perform minor routine maintenance on buildings and facilities. • Clean and supply bathrooms daily. • Mop hallways and floors; clean and dust offices. • Arrange chairs and furniture in an orderly fashion. • Dust and clean chairs, tables, shelves, and other furniture or equipment. • Wash windows, walls, woodwork, and blinds. • Vacuum, sweep, mop, wax floors, and shampoo carpets. • Gather and dispose of rubbish, trash, and garbage and place in appropriate receptacles. • Maintain required inventory supplies • Responsible for security of assigned facility while working and for properly locking up facility when all tasks are completed. Skills and Physical Abilities Required: • Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment. • Working knowledge of maintenance and custodial requirements and procedures. • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions. • Ability to read and write. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, city employees and the general public. This is medium work requiring the exertion of fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally and up to twenty (20) pounds of force frequently. Work requires considerable physical activity including walking, lifting, reaching, stooping, pulling, grasping, balancing, climbing, kneeling, standing, and crouching. Incumbent is subject to inside and outside activities with a variety of weather changes or atmospheric conditions. Incumbent may be exposed to activities such as noise and jobs with potential hazards that may require special protection and/or special safety precautions. Safety precautions will be taken when handling cleaning chemicals and other hazardous materials. Visual acuity is required to inspect work completed by crews for accuracy and quality. Incumbent is required to hear sufficiently to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Manual dexterity is required to operate equipment in performance of duties. Computer Equipment and Software Requirements: None Education and Experience Required: Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Experience in janitorial work may substitute for education requirement. Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
