Description

Do you love dogs and adventures? Do you value community and democracy in your workplace? Do you believe that all people and workers deserve dignity? Do you dream of the ultimate destruction of capitalism? Then Adventure Pups Cooperative might be right for you! We strive to create a workplace culture that is anti-oppressive, anti-racist, inclusive, safe, and democratic. We all share in our responsibilities. While some of us are worker-owners and some employees, we all have a say in how the business is run and practice democracy in our everyday work. Adventure Pups is a cooperative, so that means joining our team is a little different than applying to a more traditional job! Here at Adventure Pups Cooperative, you start off as an employee and then you have the opportunity to become a worker-owner after one year of working with us! That means that after working for us for a year and paying a $500 membership share (which can be paid over time, so that a large sum of money isn't a barrier to entry), you will essentially become a part-owner of Adventure Pups Cooperative. This gives you access to voting power and profit sharing with the company. We know this isn’t like other companies, so please feel free to ask us any questions you might have. We will also explain everything when we finally meet in-person, as we aim to be as transparent as possible. Plus, we love talking about our cooperative structure! We are a positive reinforcement only company, and we will make sure to teach you all about that if you don't already have some background in it! A day on the job could look like a lot of things, and we can discuss your comfort level with any of our offerings. We currently take pups on hikes (off-leash once we think they are trustworthy & we have a good connection with them), take them to dog parks, take them on walks, and, if you have experience, training walks! We have a certified trainer on staff who is always available to give advice, too! Generally, we start our days around 9:30 & finish up around 4, sometimes later if you wish to attend dog training sessions as an assistant. One important consideration- you MUST have a car! As we mention below as well, you will be paid gas mileage compensation, but at this point in our company growth, we are all using our own cars. Part of the job is driving around picking up dogs, so there is a lot of driving involved while working in this position! In terms of COVID, we are still working, but with as much precautions as we have been able to take. We can chat with you about those precautions, and your level of comfort. We are working to have people work in conditions only that they feel comfortable with in terms of COVID. Some of our other benefits include: Health & dental insurance $35k starting yearly salary Unlimited time off Paid gas mileage Employees and worker-owners are not “at will”, which means they can not be fired without cause Training in basic positive-reinforcement, dog social interaction, and more Opt-in training on financial literacy/business administration/digital marketing * We'd love to hear from you if you are interested in becoming an Adventure Guide! Please email us at with a cover letter and your resume, and answer the following questions: Why are you excited to work with dogs? Do you have experience working with dogs? What excites you about being part of a cooperative? Do you want to become a worker-owner, and if so, why? How do you feel working in a team? What do you think are the pros and cons of working in a team? Do you have a car? If so, what experience do you have driving in the city? Tell us about your personal values and why you think they would fit in with the values of a cooperative. If you want to learn more about what a cooperative is and stands for, you can check out ica.coop!
