Description

SWAMPSCOTT, MA —Swampscott police are warning residents of a bizarre scam that involves someone claiming to be a government agent calling and saying they have intercepted a package of drugs and money intended for the resident. Police said multiple town residents have said they were the target of the scam where a person purporting to be a representative of U.S. Customs and Border Protection contacts the resident and tries to engage them by saying a package of drugs and money was intercepted with their name on it. "Hang up!!" police urged. "It is not a real call." Police added: "And if it were, you should probably still hang up." Several residents responding to the post confirm they got a similar call on Monday or Tuesday. Anyone receiving such a call can contact Swampscott police at 781-595-1111 to report it.
