FOXBOROUGH, MA — A Massachusetts State Police trooper from the Foxborough barracks helped deliver a baby girl over the weekend after a woman went into labor while she was traveling on Interstate 95 in Canton.
Around 7 a.m., Sunday, Trooper Jordan Cavaco was on patrol near exit 12 when he was flagged down by the father flashing his high beams and hazard lights.
Cavaco instructed the man to pull over at the highway split at I-95 and Interstate 93. State Police said he then called for an ambulance, got his medical bag and OBGYN kit and jumped into action.
"The father was able to keep the mother warm and as calm as the situation allowed throughout the process," State Police said in a statement.
The mother and baby girl remained conscious and alert throughout the whole delivery, and other troopers came to help and confirmed the infant's airways were clear. State Police then wrapped the baby in a blanket until the ambulance arrived.
"Trooper Cavaco wished to express that he was very happy to have had the opportunity to assist the family with the delivery of their baby girl!" State Police said on its Facebook page.
