Five POB Students Selected as National Merit Finalists

Plainview, N.Y. —The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District is proud to announce five seniors at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School have been recognized as finalists in the 66th National Merit Scholarship competition. The students—Elijah Blum, Ian Irushalmi, Ishaan Jhawar, Brian Lee and Dylan Rubin—are among just 15,000 students in the nation being considered for approximately 7,600 awards worth a total of more than $40 million. "Congratulations to our graduating seniors Elijah, Ian, Ishaan, Brian and Dylan for their incredible achievement," said Dr. Mary O'Meara, Superintendent of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District. "We are proud to have these exceptional students represent our District in this competition. They exemplify the best of our community and serve as shining examples to students at all grade levels in our District." The National Merit Scholarship Program was established in 1955 as a not-for-profit organization to provide educational opportunities for academically talented high school students throughout the nation. The National Merit Scholarship Committee has allocated over 423,000 scholarships valued at nearly $1.7 billion to more than 3 million students nationwide.
