Town Senior Nominated For Tech Award At Minuteman

Your Arlington Last Updated: 02 March 2021 Written by Dan O'Brien Senior Lucy Kitchenka of Arlington, a carpentry career major at Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical High School, has been selected as Minuteman's nominee for the MAVA Outstanding Vocational Technical Student Awards. The award recognizes students whose scholastic and vocational technical achievements have significantly contributed to their school community. Frank LaRosa, a carpentry teacher at Minuteman, nominated Kitchenka because of her 3.8 grade-point average, excellent attendance and involvement in school activities. "She has an exceptional aptitude and grasp for our carpentry program," LaRosa said in a March 1 news release. Kitchenka is the senior class president and has served as captain of the cheerleading team, member of Girls in Trade and a moderator at a Girls in Trade statewide student conference, peer leader and member of the National Honors Society. She also serves as a student ambassador who speaks with middle school students about Minuteman. Outside of school, Kitchenka works at a hardware store in Arlington. "In school, Lucy is a role model for her peers," LaRosa said. "She is kind, considerate, compassionate, and respectful to her peers and teachers." "I am honored to have been awarded the Outstanding Vocational Technical Student of the Year Award," Kitchenka said. "Minuteman has given me amazing opportunities to be able to work with my peers to accomplish great things. I hope to be able to take everything I have learned from these experiences to accomplish even more in my life.
