TOWSON, MD — Because of the coronavirus, the annual celebration of springtime in Towson will have to wait another several seasons. Usually it is held in May. "Due to COVID-19 gathering regulations, the 2021 Towsontown Spring Festival will be postponed until May 7-8, 2022," organizers announced March 1, adding: "We are hoping to have a smaller event in the Fall of 2021." The Maryland Department of Health recommended canceling large gatherings and ensuring social distancing at smaller functions, based on Gov. Larry Hogan's latest guidance on gatherings. In Baltimore County, the guidance is more prescriptive. Outdoor social gatherings of more than 25 people are prohibited in Baltimore County, according to the executive order County Executive Johnny Olszewski Jr. signed at the end of January. "2022 will be our best festival EVER," Towsontown Spring Festival organizers said to those who shared their disappointment on Facebook. The festival is a tradition that has been going on for more than 50 years. In recent history, it has attracted hundreds of vendors.
