BRIDGEPORT, CT — Trumbull restaurateur John Vazzano, who was arrested last month and charged with bribery and related violations, is seeking the special probation program called accelerated rehabilitation to have the charges dismissed, writes The Trumbull Times.
Vazzano, owner of Vazzy's Restaurant and other area eateries, was arrested last month in connection with the case, which began in 2020 with the arrest of one Vazzano's former employees on sexual assault charges. His attorney reportedly applied for the rehabilitation program in court last week.
Authorities accuse Vazzano of offering a bribe to the family of the teenage victim of the crime. In addition to bribery of a witness, Vazzano also was charged with third-degree hindering prosecution and interfering with police.
Police said that among other violations, Vazzano did not provide authorities with the names of the two employees accused of the assault, one of whom remains at-large. Former Vazzy's employee Jaime Sena, 56, was charged with third-degree sexual assault and second-degree unlawful restraint, and his case is still pending.
Under successful completion of the accelerated rehabilitation program, charges are dismissed. While in the program, the accused must not commit any additional offenses, among other criteria.
