Press release from the University of Rhode Island: By Dawn Bergantino March 2, 2021 KINGSTON, R.I. — March 2, 2021 — Up to 40% of food grown and imported into the United States is wasted – with about 40% of that waste generated by consumer-facing businesses like grocers, restaurants, institutions, and food service providers. On Wednesday, March 10, the University of Rhode Island, together with the Center for EcoTechnology, will host a panel to discuss these issues as well as how businesses and institutions across New England are working with community groups and service providers to address wasted food. The panel will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and will consist of experts from both URI and the Center for EcoTechnology, as well as local business and nonprofit leaders, who will examine The Business Case for Reducing, Rescuing, and Recycling Food Waste. This event is a virtual follow-on session to the 2021 Rhode Island Food System Summit.
