Three Charged With Identity Theft, Check Forgery In Newtown

NEWTOWN, PA — Arrest warrants have been issued for two New Jersey men and a New York City man for their involvement in a fraudulent check scheme, the Newtown Township Police Department announced Monday. On May 28, 2020, a Newtown Township resident reported that several weeks prior, they had mailed a utility bill with an attached personal check in the amount of $180. The resident was later notified by their bank that the check had been altered and deposited for $3,700 into a bank account unrelated to the utility company. The Newtown Township Police Department conducted an investigation in conjunction with the United States Postal Service and the Limerick Township Police Department. Several additional victims were identified during the investigation. As a result, arrest warrants were issued for Julius Logan, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, Lamir Carson, of Newark, New Jersey, and Tyric Butler, of New York, for their involvement in the fraudulent activity. They have been charged with identity theft, forgery, theft by law unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, theft by deception, access device fraud, computer trespass and unlawful use of a computer.
