This is what the Breweries think about musicians: >>>UPDATED<<< A PERSON USING THE HANDLE "MIKE D" WROTE: "I don't know what rock you've been under for the last 10 months.. But perhaps you weren't aware that many eating and drinking establishments have been closed. Imagine you're the owner of an establishment that survived. You've just forked out tens of thousands in rent with no income. Had issues in start up cost as equipment lay barren for 10 months. IMHO, you're fortunate they're allowing you to play. Get yourself established and charge a cover charge.. Then you can get more.. In the meantime don't be so freaking greedy!" >>>HERE IS MY REPLY<<< Dear Mike D, Everyone has been hurting because of the virus, you think your the only one? Well, you're not. I can assure you someone that can afford to open a brewery is thousands of times better off than any and all musicians around here. You no doubt applied for and received thousands of dollars in forgivable loans no strings attached. Musicians got $1,200 last year and I'm sure you got that too. Landlords have forgiven months of rent because of the virus and I'm sure you too have benefited from that as well. If you think we as musicians are supposed to feel sorry for you and play for nothing you're wrong. Why would you exploit musicians just to keep $200 to $300 on weekend nights in your own pocket. Besides, no one held a gun to your head to open a Brewery in the first place. Bartenders and servers make upwards of $200 a night in tips this is a known fact. How many of your employees work for $6 an hour with no tips? Oh wait I know the answer, it's zero. But you have the nerve to say we should be glad just for the privilege to play at all. And a cover charge? Tell me about all the Breweries that want that? Customers won't pay a cover charge, at least a large number won't and you think the Breweries will let them just walk away? That will never happen, ever. So now we're back to you being okay with paying a group $100 a night which you should be ashamed of but you're not. I'll spell it out again for you. $6 an hour is what you're paying and that's just wrong. Who are you Mike D? You won't tell us because you could expect a boycott along with some bad press. Maybe this is what you deserve for the audacity to infer that musicians refusing to work for $6 dollars an hour are being "greedy".
