GILROY, CA — Federal prosecutors charged a Gilroy woman with two misdemeanors in connection with the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol after reviewing her social media accounts. In a document, federal investigators charged Mariposa Castro, a Gilroy resident, with "knowingly entering" the Capitol "without lawful authority," and "violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds." Investigators revealed screenshots and videos from Castro's social media accounts that they said indicated she was at the Capitol and had entered the building. As she climbed into the building, the complaint said that Castro narrated in a video: "I'm going in. I'm going in, I'm going in the Capitol. We're in! We're inside the Capitol house. We got inside the Capitol." Investigators said that Castro is "well-known" in the Gilroy community. According to the complaint, investigators tried contacting her at home and saw a person who matched her description inside, but she didn't answer. Castro also didn't answer a call to her cell phone.
