AURORA, IL — A vacant multifamily home was destroyed by flames early Tuesday morning near downtown Aurora, according to fire officials. The Aurora Fire Department received multiple calls just before 7 a.m. Tuesday for a fire at a home in the 200 block of West Downer Place, with initial reports indicating someone was trapped inside, according to a news release. Crews spent about two and a half hours fighting the flames Tuesday morning, with the building's construction and icy conditions making it difficult to extinguish the fire, officials said. Several firefighters slipped and fell on the ice but no one was injured, officials said. The home was declared uninhabitable, and officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
