Production Welder Job Summary: The MIG Production Welder will weld, cut, and braze metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment. Responsible for various types of weld preparation, welding and weld finishing operations to manufacture product to specifications. Positions material to be welded, using standard fixtures in most cases, and applies hand-eye coordination to achieve the desired weld. Materials welded include steel. Applications tends to be limited to standard products and materials where plans are specified, welding positions are routine and work may be characterized as longer production runs. Essential Functions of the Production Welder: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job. • Follows established safety protocols including required usage of PPE; helps to maintain a safe working environment. • Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment. • Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage. • Prepares, assembles, and tack welds parts and surfaces to be welded. • Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area. • Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered. • Performs other related duties as assigned. Skills and Abilities for the Production Welder: • Able to read blue prints; understanding of weld symbols and preparation of materials • Strong attention to detail • Good communication skills • Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair • Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms. • Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments. • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Physical Requirements of the Production Welder: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. • Must be able to weld components that are vertical or flat. • Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work. • Must be able to see details at close range. • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times. • Must be able to balance, lift, stoop, and carry materials.
