Mandolin lessons in the Bay Area since 2009
I love to teach. It is always a good opportunity to meet great people.
I have 49 years of experience in practicing music, 40 years as a professional musician, and 30 years as teacher.
I’m from Milan Italy where I get my degree in music in the Civica Scuola di Musica di Milano, now Claudio Abbado.
I played Double Bass in Classical Orchestra for 20 years, while at the same time I played mandolin and electric bass in diverse situation, classical, rock, and folk.
In 2009 I moved to the Bay Area where I teach mandolin and conduct the San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra.
Online lessons are available on Zoom, Skype, and Facetime. I teach the full mandolin family, plus upright and electric bass.
Mandolin lessons are normally one hour long with emphasis on developing a nice clear picking technique typical of the classical Italian tradition. This is the technique that facilitates a nice expressive tremolo, the quintessential sound of the mandolin. In order to have a beautifully resonant sound it is very important to work on the left hand just as much as the right.
I mostly use Italian traditional methods and repertoire ranging from easy songs to baroque concertos to keep the lessons interesting and alive.
I prefer to have one lesson per week, but I am open to different arrangements.
For a first lesson simply send me a message.
