GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Feb. 23. Feb. 17 An Oceanside company was cited for the operation of a large tractor trailer on Franklin Avenue while 47,000 pounds overweight as well as a defective suspension system and a defective tire. The driveway of a Stewart Avenue apartment house collapsed causing the rear of a sanitation truck, which was making a scheduled pick-up, to become trapped in a large hole. No injuries were reported.Officers responded to Adelphi University for a bomb threat received via email. With assistance from Adelphi Public Safety, a thorough investigation was conducted, and all appeared to be in order. The investigation is ongoing.Firefighters and police responded to a fire alarm at a Garden City residence. Burnt food was determined to be the cause. Feb. 18 Officers responded to 20 storm-related calls on Feb. 17 and 19, which included auto accidents, disabled vehicles, alarms, and hazardous conditions.A resident received an automated phone message stating there was a warrant for her arrest followed by instructions to push another number for further information. The victim notified Police, who determined the call was a scam. Feb. 19 Police are investigating the theft of multiple items from a vehicle parked on Meadow Street.Officers arrested a 55-year-old driver for driving on Stewart Avenue with eight license suspensions, possession of a forged registration, unregistered vehicle, uninsured vehicle, and uninsured operation. Feb. 20 Upon investigation of a Jan. 30 incident at the Residence Inn, officers arrested a 24-year-old man for the theft of a car and violation of a court order of protection against another person. A 32-year-old man was arrested for driving a tractor trailer on Clinton Road with a stolen license plate and a defaced vehicle identification number. A 24-year-old man was arrested for driving on Clinton Road with a forged registration tag, unregistered vehicle, uninsured vehicle, and tinted windows.Police investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after striking the rear of another vehicle on Old Country Road. Feb. 21 A 22-year-old driver was charged with excessive speed on Washington Avenue as well as possession of a forged registration, unlicensed operation, unregistered vehicle and uninsured vehicle.A 24-year-old driver was charged with driving on Stewart Avenue with multiple license suspensions from New York and Florida, possession of a forged registration, child not wearing a seatbelt, unregistered auto and uninsured auto. Feb. 22 Upon an investigation at TD Bank, Officers arrested a 51-year-old man who attempted to use forged identification documents, a forged debit card and forged papers to withdraw money from another person's bank account. The man was charged with four counts of possession of a forged instrument, identity theft, two counts of attempted larceny and two counts of forgery.A driver was charged with passing a red traffic light on Stewart Avenue at Rockaway Avenue and driving with a suspended license.Officers investigated eight reports of victims' identities being stolen and used to file false unemployment claims during the week.
