In celebration of Earth Day (Thursday, April 22nd, 2021) volunteers will facilitate Summerville’s second annual Earth Day Event! In celebration of Earth Day (Thursday, April 22nd, 2021) volunteers are facilitating Summerville’s second annual Earth Day Event! This year we invite volunteers to participate in citizen science, while cleaning up litter around Summerville. Volunteers are asked to collect data on the types of debris being found during litter sweeps. In addition to all clean up supplies, we will provide clip boards with data sheets. Although data collection will slow the litter sweep a bit, please let it, as litter data is important to finding litter solutions. All data collected will be entered into the South Carolina Aquarium's Litter-Free Digital Journal! Volunteers can pick up & return supplies at the Rollings Edwards Community Center to perform a litter sweep in a self selected area. Additionally, volunteers will hand out & collect supplies at Sawmill Branch Trail and Jessen Boat Landing. Data collection works best with teams of 2-4 volunteers per clipboard but solo volunteers are welcome to help! Support for event to be provided by Summerville Clean Team, Town of Summerville, Keep Dorchester County Beautiful, South Carolina Aquarium, Palmetto Pride, and other local groups.
