The Y.E.S. Kickoff is a full-day of workshops that introduce kids to new skills in a fun way and empower them to try new things! We will be offering 2 workshops to choose from during each session. The workshops are targeted towards kids ages 4-14 and the schedule is as follows: Session 1: 11 to 11:45am Kid Tested, Parent Approved Cooking Class w/ Ashley: Ashley, a local health enthusiast, will be teaching kids how to make a healthy and tasty yogurt bowl that they will get to enjoy at the end of the workshop. They will learn about the health benefits and be introduced to new, fun foods! OR Hip Hop Dance Class w/ Cray Project: Join the ladies of Cray Project in learning all of the new social dances from Tik Tok, YouTube and more, influenced by hip hop culture! Session 2: 12-12:45pm Mini Basketball Camp w/ Uzonna: Uzonna, a personal trainer & former college basketball player is here to teach basketball basics. The workshop will focus on strength and conditioning workouts & basketball drills that emphasize teamwork. OR Juicing with Joshua from Organiq Goods: Owner and Juicer Extraordinaire, Joshua, will be introducing kids to the world of fresh juice! The workshop will include a live tutorial with samples of the fresh juice along with a lesson on the benefits of fresh juice vs. processed juices. Boxed lunches, snacks and cookies will be served from 1-2pm. Kids & their parents can enjoy the DJ and youth-centered resource booths during this break. Session 3: 2-2:45pm Handmade Pottery w/ Francis: Francis, a local artist, will be teaching the kids how to handmake pitch pots. They will be practicing skill of cooperation and understanding the textures or clay and how we can incorporate building skill into our own life with a positive outlook! Egg Car Crash Challenge w/ Opportunities for Learning: This will be a physics engineering design challenge where kids will be given the task of designing a car that can carry an egg down a ramp, without breaking! Session 4: 3-3:45pm Learn to Tie-Dye w/ Being Real is Quality: Owner & designer, Joshua, will be teaching kids the art of tie-dye. Joshua will be teaching the kids how to prep, tie & dye their own personal t-shirt that they will get to take home with them! Trash to Treasure Jewelry Making w/ Entretopia: Sustainability is key! Taking trash to create treasure. Kids will learn how to craft paper beads utilizing various textiles from cereal boxes to circulars you would normally trash.
