California Company Exhibits Innovative 3D-Printed Studio Dwelling In Del Mar

By Chris Jennewein, Times of San Diego March 1, 2021 Mighty Buildings, an Oakland-based startup, is introducing San Diego homeowners to an accessory dwelling unit constructed via a giant 3D-printing process. The company's 350-square-foot studio model — the smallest in its line of prefabricated dwellings — features a compact kitchen with stove, refrigerator and dishwasher and a full bathroom with built-in washer and dryer. The unit itself costs $115,000, and Mighty Buildings will handle permits and installation for an additional fee as part of a 3-to-4-month turnkey project. The studio model qualifies as an accessary dwelling unit, and can also be used as a pool house or home office. Larger units are available, up to a 1,440-square-foot 2-bedroom, 2-bath house for $287,000. Mighty Buildings uses a giant 3D printer and robots to construct floor, walls and ceiling over a steel frame. A completed unit is trucked to its destination and lowered into place by a crane. A demo unit is set up at Flower Hill Promenade on Via De La Valle in Del Mar. Tours can be scheduled through April on the Mighty Buildings website.
