FREMONT, CA — High-end surveying equipment fitted with GPS tracking was stolen from a work truck in Fremont on Jan. 25. Detectives tracked the stolen items to Oakland, got a search warrant, and recovered the stolen items as well as approximately 100 laptops, surveying and construction tools, cameras, gaming consoles, cellphones, and other electronics. Police called this a fencing operation. The total haul was worth an estimated $400,000. Fremont Police arrested 36-year old Manuel Velasquez of Oakland on suspicion of possession of stolen property. "He was booked at the Fremont City Jail where he was issued a citation with an April 2021 court date due to 'zero bail,'" police said in a written report. Police also recovered two handguns during the search, one with an extended magazine. One of the guns was reported stolen. The Fremont vehicle burglary was reported at a construction site in the 48000 block of Fremont Boulevard. The suspected fencing operation was in the area of Lisbon and Portwood avenues in Oakland.
