SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Homeless people in the Phoenix-area have a number of obstacles to overcome when finding shelter. But soon, having a pet won't be one of those obstacles for some. Hunkapi Farms, a horse farm near 96th Street and Cactus Road in Scottsdale, will provide a safe space for homeless pet owners to leave their pets while they seek treatment beginning in April, according to an AZfamily.com report. "We knew that we could answer that call," Terra Schaad, executive director of Hunkapi programs, told the news channel. The "Almost Home Dog Hotel" will hold up to 15 dogs in the unused horse stalls at the farm, the report states. "We can keep their dog there, and they will be in safekeeping," Schaad said. "They can be assured they'll get their dogs back once they are back on their feet." "We knew we have the community here to love and support the dogs," she added. "We're all about community here. If we can help fill a need in our community then we are going to step up and answer." Read more from AZfamily.com
