Two Longtime Hoover Police Captains Retire

HOOVER, AL — The Hoover Police Department celebrated the careers Monday of two longtime officers with the department, as Capt. Harry Long and Capt. Gregg Rector each announced their retirement from the Hoover PD. Combined, Long and Rector have put in 67 years of service to the Hoover community. Long joined the Hoover Police Department in 1984, holding numerous assignments over the years as a member of the HPD family. Long was promoted through the ranks, and achieved the title Administrative Bureau Captain in 2015. He ended his HPD career as the Commander over the Patrol/Operations Bureau. Rector began his law enforcement career with the Hoover Police Department in 1989. He held command positions in the Patrol and Criminal Investigations Division, was promoted to Captain in 2005 and was assigned as the Commander of the Patrol/Operations Bureau. Rector ended his career serving as the Commander of the Investigative Services Bureau. "On behalf of Chief Derzis, the Hoover Police Department, and the City of Hoover, we wish you the best as you embark on the next chapter," said a statement by the Hoover PD. "Enjoy retirement!"
