Description

Looking for a good home for my GCC, because I may be moving across the country in a few weeks. Rehoming fee applies, and I have a small cage you can take to use for temporarily getting him accustomed to your home. He is apparently about 5yo (no hatch cert, but I have a sex cert that he is male). I got him early on into the pandemic as a rescue. You can see what shape he was in at that point from the last picture, and since then I've done everything in my ability to train him and recover him. Good news is, he's very healthy, no health issues according to the vet, and I was able to get him to stop plucking. He loves shredder toys, and seeds wrapped up in paper towel that he can rip apart and forage. Bad news is, he has not really let me train him. He will run over to come out of the cage on my finger (without treats even), but as soon as he's out, he will take off flying within a matter of seconds, or quickly scurry up to my shoulder. I guess he is just terrified of hands, sadly. So he is very much a flock bird and not a pet. He won't do tricks, he won't mimic, and you are lucky if he will sit on your shoulder more than 5 minutes instead of flying off to the tallest nearby object. And then it can be tough getting him back in the cage at that point. He is also very vocal and will make quiet squawks/clucks just about all day long. If he hears birds chirping outside, he will contact call loudly. Although I can get him to eat treats and pellets from my hand, I do not think he was hand raised as a baby. Because of these reasons, I think he would greatly benefit from a home with at least 1 other bird, and am reluctant to give him up to anyone inexperienced. He eats roudybush and loves fresh veggies and fruits. His absolute favorite is bell pepper.
