Description
Looking to find an EXPERIENCED home for a supposedly female Nile monitor. -Although I have been referring to her as a "she" I have not been able to determine this 100%, and attempting to do a more invasive exam is not recommended. I am basing gender by the current size and age, history, and absence of having presented obvious male features. -She is NOT docile, and does not appreciate being touched/handled. Although the previous owner claimed that she would hang out and lounge with them on the couch, its more likely that she wasn't being kept at the correct temperatures and thus had been forced into a slowed metabolic rate. Now that she's been receiving proper heat and UVB she is extremely active and curious, but very wary of people. -She is super food motivated, and will gladly gobble down any kind of protein: whole prey, insects, ground meats, meat cuts, organs, small birds, whole eggs, Reptilinks, etc. If it moves or smells like meat, she'll eat it. -She will require an EXPERIENCED monitor keeper who can handle her size and strength. I have begun the start of target-training with her to try to reduce the amount of food-related aggression she has, but she will definitely need someone with more time than I have who can work on this, or simply appreciate her for the beautiful creature she is without expecting a lap-pet. -A LARGE ENCLOSURE is a MUST. She is currently being housed in an 8'X4' enclosure, and I wouldn't recommend anything less than this since she is very active. She will need a large tub or pool to soak & swim in, and deep substrate to dig in. She currently measures approximately 4' in length. Unfortunately I cannot provide an enclosure with her since what I have her in is built into a stack of other (very large) enclosures. I will require proof of adequate housing (via zoom or other video chat) prior to considering placement into a new home. - NEW HAMPSHIRE RESIDENTS ONLY (unless you can provide proof of import/possession permit in other states) Nile Monitors are regulated in all northeast states except NH last time I checked. If you think you are qualified and aren't sure about the legality of this species in your state get in touch with your fish & wildlife department. - I am not asking a re-homing fee if you are a qualified and appropriate home for her. This is contingent on proof of adequate housing, experience, and general ability to provide for this species. NO SHIPPING, but I would be willing to meet up pretty much anywhere in NH to deliver to a qualified home.
