Description
Last year I rescued a pair of gerbils and they recently had 7 babies! Mom and dad are now separated so there will be no more breeding, but I have 7 adorable little ones that need a loving home! I will be sending them out as singles, as gerbils are meant to live a solitary life and I also can’t guarantee which are males and females, though I can try to guess if you really want two. Colors: 1 black with white face stripe 1 all brown (has the fluffiest tail tip!) 2 apricot, one has a face stripe 3 silver (one all silver, 2 with face stripe) They are still skittish since they are so young, but have not bitten. With daily gentle handling they will become great pets. If getting for young children, you will have to supervise them holding them at this stage- they are extremely fast and small, and absolutely will jump out of your hand. I would recommend taking the whole cage to a bathroom or room without areas they could squeeze into tight spaces and holding them there. Diet: gerbils need hay to thrive, as well as an alfalfa based pellet. Hay can be the majority of the diet with pellets fed free choice. They love (in small quantities) dried mealworms, small pieces of raw nuts, small pieces of fruits and berries, small pieces of root veggies, puffed rice and oats. Treats need to be in very small amounts or the will have diarrhea and get obese quickly. Gerbils can live up to 7 years, so be prepared for that commitment. They may be too small at this point to live in a wire cage, as they could squeeze through. I would suggest a 10gallon or bigger aquarium with lid. They will need some sort of hut or house to hide and nest in (I have a cute wooden boat in one and a finch bird house for my other). They should have clean aspen or other appropriate bedding. Cages should be cleaned once every 7-10 days. Fresh water daily in a small bowl or water bottle. Mine love to shred paper tubes, small boxes, chew on hard chews from the pet store or destroy dried grass toys (also from pet store). They are very interactive and love new things in their environment. As a fun play time thing, you can get a small shallow dish and let them roll for a few minutes in reptile sand. Remove after 5-10 min to prevent respiratory disease. They get very few health issues, but should see an exotic animal vet for coughing, sneezing, blood at nose, or looking unhealthy (coats and eyes should be shiny). All are very healthy right now. Ready to go to new homes starting next Friday (mar 5).
