Description

Violin, viola, or cello lessons are available in 15, 30, 45, or 60 minute sessions. Regularly-scheduled lessons (weekly or fortnightly) are $50 per hour with the option to purchase lessons individually or make equal monthly payments. As-needed lessons are $60 per hour. All assignments are public domain and are also available digitally if you prefer a paperless option. You will not need to purchase any books or sheet music unless you choose to pursue something that requires you to use copyrighted materials. Fiddle lessons are short-term (completion of a two-volume book series) and are available in weekly or fortnightly sessions, $12 for 30 minutes or $24 for 60 minutes. Books are available for Kindle if you prefer a paperless option. Virtual lessons have many advantages over traditional options. Here are just a few of them: (1) You receive more instruction time because you don't have to be logged in to set up, tune, and warmup before your lesson nor to clean your instrument and put it away after your lesson. A thirty-minute lesson is actually a thirty-minute lesson, rather than only 20-25 minutes of instruction. (2) Your instrument doesn't need to be transported, which means it doesn't have to acclimate to a new environment, and it isn't as likely to need tuning during your lesson. (3) You have a lot more control over your learning environment when it belongs to you. You get to set the temperature and lighting to your comfort. If you feel like you need a snack or a drink, you're in your own space, so you don't have to follow someone else's rules. If windows are distracting, close them or choose a room that doesn't have them. If you don't want to wear shoes, don't. If your pet likes to curl up at your feet or in your case while you play, that's cool. (4) Virtual lessons may cost less. Even if your online teacher charges similar rates to offline teachers, you don't have to travel, and that means you don't have to pay for fuel or time required to travel. (5) You miss fewer lessons. Contagious illnesses with mild symptoms may necessitate canceling in person lessons, whereas you may not feel the need to cancel a virtual lesson for the same reason. You also don't have to worry about catching a virus from your instructor, other students, or anyone else you might encounter at a studio or music store, and you won't be required to wear a mask. (6) Zoom allows for things like screen sharing, recording, and multiple cameras that can improve learning.
