May 8th at Cadenza the folk duo Castlebay will present a concert of both traditional and contemporary Celtic songs. This special concert will explore the many aspects of the Samhain celebration through songs, poetry and stories of harvest and the twilight of the year. Castlebay members Julia Lane and Fred Gosbee sing and play the music of the Celtic lands interweaving music and lore in their personable performances. Both are accomplished vocalists who support their singing and stories with guitar, fiddle, tinwhistle and award-winning playing of the Celtic harp. The duo has travelled to the British Isles and Ireland both performing and researching the origins of their music. They have also presented concerts and programs at arts centers, museums and schools throughout the eastern US and Canada and have released 26 recordings. Castlebay is creating a series of recordings with informational booklets for the 4 Cross-quarter celebrations. The first release was Imbolc (Feb 2) and now they have produced Samhain. In addition to the music and lore, local artist Heather Elowe has created beautiful images for the covers. Come and enjoy an evening of entrancing Celtic myth, magic and music.
