Description
NEWTON, MA —The School Committee is holding a public hearing on March 8 for Newton residents to comment on the petition to create a Medical Advisory Committee that would work to maintain or expand in-person education in Newton Public Schools.
The petition, which was certified in January, states that the committee would be composed of Newton doctors, educators, and parents and would evaluate "scientific and medical evidence" when considering what best practices are for safely bringing more students back to the school buildings. The committee's recommendations would not be binding for the School Committee or NPS.
The committee members would be appointed by the School Committee with stipulations on who can serve, according to the petition. The elected chair and vice-chair should be physicians, it says.
