2005 Chevy Tahoe - back gate won't open

The back hatch won't open on my 2005 Chevy Tahoe. There is no manual lock. All the other doors lock/unlock without issue, both using my keychain (remote) lock as well as the door locks. I don't think it's possible but it would be great to have the back hatch permanently unlocked. This needs repaired ASAP. This is my work vehicle and I currently can't use it because I am unable to open the back hatch.
