Description

POLK COUNTY, FL — An Amazon scam is targeting Polk County residents, a police news release said. The scammers will call an Amazon or Apple customer and tell them that there is a problem with their account, such as a suspicious purchase, lost package or unfulfilled order, according to the Federal Trade Commission. Apple customers could be told that their account has been breached. The scammer will then instruct the victim to press 1, or any other number, to speak with customer support, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said. Other things they might say is to call another number, or ask you to provide them with your personal information. Deputies advise not to do anything. Hang up. Do not visit a web address either that the caller might give you. The scammers could also target people who are not Apple or Amazon customers, deputies said. Report these types of scams to the Federal Trade Commission at Report Fraud.
