Description
RUSKIN, FL — An art gallery that encourages artists to go "green" opened Thursday in Ruskin.
De Stijl Art Gallery is housed in a building that is art itself as it is painted in the style of Piet Mondrian, the gallery's website said. Local artists will have opportunities of showing their works at De Stijl.
The gallery is in favor of artists using "green" elements when creating work instead of the normal techniques found in sculpture or painting. A variety of painting styles, such as watercolor, acrylic and oil, are seen on canvases featured on the studio's walls. Beyond painting, sculptures, ceramic, wood creations, teckno and other art is available for viewing and purchase.
De Stijl is Dutch for "The Style," also known as Neoplasticism. It was a Dutch art movement founded in 1917 in Leiden, Amsterdam, according to its website. De Stijl included artists and architects.
De Stijl, 100 E. Shell Point Rd, is open Thursday and Friday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
For more information, visit its website at De Stijl Art Gallery.
