Description

Linda Knight Linda Knight was an amazing wife, mom, grandmother, daughter, sister, and auntie; she was also the maker of sweet potato souffle and pound cakes like none other. Linda was a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC, class of '69. Following graduation, she enlisted in the United States Army as a Medical Specialist in the historic Women's Army Corps. She later worked as a nurse and was an award-winning educator at Shamrock Elementary School; most recently, Linda earned her credentials as a licensed foster parent and received recognition by the North Carolina Division of Adoption and Foster Care for inspiring new foster care practices and procedures within the state. She loved being involved in the church and was a dedicated member of Northeast Seventh Day Adventist Church in Charlotte, NC, where she served as head of the Woman's usher board, a member of the Senior Ministry, a member of the Deaconess Board, and was a faithful Sabbath school and choir member —noting that singing in the church's annual Easter Cantada brought her great joy. Linda had a heart for the sick, shut-in, and disadvantaged. She consistently made well-being calls and purchased and prepared food to meet their needs. Linda's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her heart and joy. There's no denying that her grandbabies and great-grands, as she called them, were the people that she loved the most. Time spent at grandma's house was very special for her grandbabies and great-grands, and parents were discouraged from hanging out too long. Linda was preceded in death by mother Gwendolyn Louise Davis and father Rivers Galloway, Sr. She is survived by her husband Mervin Knight, her two sons, Sheradan Baker of New Orleans, LA, and Sean Baker (Robin) of Raleigh, NC, and daughter Ebony Knight of Charlotte, NC, her eight sisters Eunice Brown, Gwendolyn Smith, Marilyn Robinson, Antoinette Ferchaud, Janice DeBouse, Janet Williams, Violet Bournes and Anitra Dillon; her three brothers George Frink, Rivers Galloway, Jr. and Jeremy Butler; her seven grandchildren Brittany Cornelius (Reginald), Teauna Baker, Na'Zerrah Howard, Jvon Buckle, Olivia Baker, Ivey Baker and Joshua Baker, and six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. All who knew her loved her
