Description
NEW HYDE PARK, NY — Train service will be suspended between the New Hyde Park and Hicksville stations this weekend while engineers perform signal work as part of the Mineola Long Island Rail Road Expansion Project, according to a news release from the Metropolitan Transit Authority.
There will be no main line train service between Hicksville and Jamaica as a result of the signal work. Trains will not be running from the New Hyde Park, Merillion Avenue, Mineola, Carle Place, and Westbury stations. Riders are advised to use the Hempstead branch where weekend service will be increased from hourly to half-hourly, or Nassau Inter-County Express bus service. LIRR tickets will "cross-honored" on the N22/24 for service between Hicksville and Mineola, and the N40/41 bus routes for service between Mineola and Hempstead, the news release stated.
The agency also advised riders to avoid the Ronkonkoma, Huntington/Port Jefferson, and Oyster Bay branches this weekend. Instead it advises using the Babylon, Montauk, or Port Washington branches. A special weekend timetable is in effect for all of the branches.
The LIRR Expansion Project will add a third track on about 10 miles of right-of-way between Floral Park and Hicksville to increase capacity, improve reliability and create new service opportunities, according to the MTA.
