MERIDEN, CT — First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will be heading to Connecticut next week, WFSB 3-TV reported. She will be in Meriden on Wednesday, March 3.
There's no word yet on what she will be doing in Meriden, but the White House has said additional details will be released soon.
Max Reiss, spokesman for Gov. Ned Lamont, said that the White House has informed them of the visit "and the governor is honored to host Dr. Biden for one of her first trips as First Lady," according to The New Haven Register.
Former Meriden teacher and principal Miguel Cardona is President Joe Biden's nominee to be the next U.S. Secretary of Education. The road for his approval was cleared in a 66-32 procedural vote in the Senate on Thursday, according to FOX 61.
Cardona was picked as the state's Department of Education commissioner in August 2019 by Lamont. Cardona has more than two decades of experience as a public school educator in Meriden, according to his bio on the state's website.
Cardona began his career as an elementary school teacher and served as a school principal for 10 years. He became assistant superintendent for teaching and learning in 2013.
It's not yet clear whether the First Lady's visit is connected to Cardona.
