Granville Center Goes All Out For Mardi Gras

On February 17, Granville Center on Madison Street in Granville had a facility-wide Mardi Gras celebration. It doesn't begin there. First, the 122-bed facility began with a week-long contest with clues placed throughout the building. All of the clues lead to the answer of Mardi Gras and the winner received their very own mask, this event was open to both residents and staff. One happy resident Patricia Planter, one of Granville Center's newest residents as of January of this year Secondly, the residents were treated to a Mardi Gras "Feast of Louisiana"- style with dry rubbed slow cooked pork ribs, dirty rice "New Orleans style" and King Cake. The residents were given information on the history of Mardi Gras, whereby the residents played trivia games revolving around the Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday theme. "Our residents had the time of their lives," said Jennifer Hall, Interim Activities Director at Granville Center. "It's been a tough year for them but we are all family and this is something they are telling their families over FaceTime, Zoom and Skype." Granville Center resident Lyle Bessette, who has been a resident since 2019, also loves Mardi GrasThat afternoon, staff marched and paraded the halls with Mardi Gras jazz music, noise makers, masks and lots of festive merry making. Residents loved it, showing big smiles and laughter, cheering and shouting. The residents received masks, beads, and noise makers to help celebrate with the staff.
