Rehoming our Titus

Description

We're going to try again. With heavy, heavy hearts we need to rehome our sweet, loving pit pull. He's 2 and his name is Titus. We adopted Titus about eight months ago from a no-kill shelter. He was adopted by them from the Humane Society where he was on the kill list. He's essentially grown up in a kennel so he needs a whole lot of love and attention. Titus LOVES to play outside, chew on sticks, play fetch (he can even "drop" his toy so you can toss it again), and eat almost anything (except broccoli, but he begs for frozen green beans). He's quiet (only barks when he doesn't know someone at the door (like the Amazon guy), cuddly, animated, and sensitive. He doesn't do well when voices are loud but will respond to simple commands like sit, stay, walk, come, wait, eat (he won't eat until you tell him it's okay), down, drop. Oh, and he LOVES to ride in the car. So with all this amazingness, why do we have to rehome him? Because we travel a lot (we were planning on taking him with us) and we can't take him with us given his behavior when he's in public. We're not going to stop traveling and we're not willing to deal with his behavior when we travel. His curiosity takes over him and it seems he can't even hear us anymore. It's like he's hyper-focused on protecting us and over-reads every input he sees, smells, or hears. We've hired all the trainers we're willing to hire, and we're not willing to change up our lives to meet his very demanding needs when he's in public. Call us whatever names you want, but we were told he was trained and very good in public and while he's sweet and just wants to play come hell or high water, he doesn't listen. Therefore, we've made the VERY difficult decision that we are not willing to deal with it for the rest of his life. It's not fair to either of us. What he needs is a lot of space to run, chew, play, and sleep as he wants. He needs to be the King. He needs a family where he gets to call the shots but gets to run, play, jump, swim, and be a dog. He does well with ALL people (he thinks everyone wants to be his best friend). He's never bitten anyone, but does like to "teeth" (like a baby gumming on a toy). We've tried to have him around other dogs several times, but he's so impulsive that we pulled him away, not sure what his intentions were. If you're interested in meeting Titus and maybe welcoming him into your home, please respond with the following information: 1. Why you're interested. 2. You're living situation - house, apt, condo 3. If you have other animals and what kinds 4. Your job 5. What you like to do in your spare time We're being very choosy as we love this guy and want to make sure he's homed properly. Since he's being rehomed, there is a $250 rehome fee. We will work out those details once we get to that point. He's neutered and chipped.
