RIVERDALE PARK, MD — A Bowie man confessed to murdering a security guard earlier this month, police announced Thursday. An incident report noted that the suspect shot the guard and stole his car in Riverdale Park on Feb. 11.
Officers added that they found the victim in the 5400 block of 54th Avenue around 8:10 p.m. He died soon after in an unnamed hospital, the report explained. Investigators identified the victim as 23-year-old Riyadh Al Janabi of Rockville.
Police mentioned that they found and arrested the suspect on Wednesday. Officers informed that the accused man, 24-year-old Desmond Mbah, faces charges of:
First-degree murderSecond-degree murderCarjackingRelated crimes The press release shared that the Prince George's County Department of Corrections is holding Mbah without bail. His trial date is not yet known.
Though the shooting happened in the territory of the Riverdale Park Police Department, the Prince George's County Police Department handles all the town's homicide investigations. The case number is 21-0006765.
