SECAUCUS, NJ — A 20-year-old Baltimore man pleaded guilty to a hit and run in Secaucus last summer that claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman. The state is recommending a five-year prison sentence in exchange for his plea. The woman, Reyna Huerta-Flores, was hit as she was walking home from work on the evening of July 6. She lived in Union City and was walking home from her job at a mozzarella cheese-making business in Secaucus. Police say David Ceausu struck her with his 2020 Chevy Tahoe at 7:30 p.m. at 850 Paterson Plank Road, near the Secaucus Home Depot, Mamajuana Cafe and the entrance to the NJ Turnpike. He then fled the scene, said police, and Secaucus Police found the woman by the side of the road with life-threatening injuries. The woman was taken to Hudson Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11 p.m. that same night. The Hudson County prosecutor released these photos of Ceausu and his truck, as a nationwide search was conducted. His name and photo was shared with news outlets in New Jersey, New York, Maryland and other locations in the United States and Canada. Ceausu, who last lived in Baltimore, turned himself in to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office shortly after those photos were blasted on social media and elsewhere. On Friday of this week, Ceausu pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. The Hudson prosecutor will recommend five years in New Jersey state prison to be followed by a two year driver's license suspension. He must also pay a $2,500 fine.
