The Watchung Arts Center is delighted to announce its winter term art classes for children and teens. Instructor: Monica Schraiber Otero hastaught Art at elementary and high school levels since 1991. She received her BAin Art from Rutgers University, Newark College of Arts and Sciences with aconcentration in oil painting. She teaches Drawing and Painting classes at theWatchung Arts Center, is the Director of the Summer Art Camp, and curates theChildren's Juried Art Exhibition each year. She is a professional artist whoshows her work in many venues throughout NJ. She is a member of AENJ (ArtEducators of NJ) and the Contemporary Art Group. DRAWING ENRICHMENT WORKSHOP : Ages 5-11 Young artists develop natural ability, improve skills and explore newtechniques as they learn the fundamentals of drawing. Students will use dry andwet media such as pencil, charcoal, oil or chalk pastels, India ink andwatercolors as they discover how to sketch, shade and use perspective. Projectswill include still life, portraits, landscapes in natural settings (weatherpermitting), optical illusions, abstracts and more! WINTER 2020 THURSDAYS 4:45—6:15 P.M. (10 weeks) Jan. 9, 16, 23, 30, Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27, March 5, 12 SPRING 2020 TUESDAYS 4:45—6:15 P.M. (8 weeks) April 14, 21, 28, May 5, 12, 19, 26, June 2 PAINTING ENRICHMENT WORKSHOP : Ages 5-11 Students create realistic pieces or let their imaginations go as they learnhow to use non-toxic acrylics on canvas. Young artists will produce colorfulworks as they learn the basics of the traditional technique of painting,composition and the color wheel. Projects will include still-life portraits,landscapes, abstracts and more! WINTER 2020 TUESDAYS 4:45—6:15 P.M. (10 weeks) Jan. 7, 14, 21, 28, Feb. 4, 11, 18, 25, March 3, 10 SPRING 2020 THURSDAYS 4:45—6:15 P.M. (8 weeks) April 16, 23, 30, May 7, 14, 21, 28, June 4 TEEN ART PROGRAM : Ages 12-17 A program for students ages 12 -17 where they will explore drawing andpainting techniques, and the use of different materials to create bothrepresentational and abstract projects. Participants will work with wet and drymedia such as pencil, pastels and watercolors as well acrylic on canvas.Classes are geared toward improving skills and developing artistic ability.Students create their pieces at their own pace based on group andindividualized instruction.
