Press release from the Novato Unified School District:
February 25, 2021
"Gosh it is hard to believe that I am writing the March newsletter. This year is moving forward whether we like it or not. There have been so many things that we have struggled with since August; learning new instructional platforms, balancing work and your children's education and supporting distance learning. I never thought we could survive to this point.
The Mars Rover Perseverance ( https://www.nasa.gov/perseverance) landed on Mars last month and I think that is such a great theme for this year, perseverance. The landing had "seven minutes of terror," because the sequence is so harrowing and happens faster than radio signals can reach Earth from Mars. That means the spacecraft is on its own once it enters the Martian atmosphere. For many of us this seems like an analogy for our pandemic year; things moving at a rate faster than we get information.
There is also a secret message on the Perseverance parachute "Dare Mighty Things" . During this year we have been pushed to "Dare Mighty Things" in education, not always by choice but we have done them nonetheless. I am proud to be an educator now. Not that it is easy but we are exploring how to connect students and families to learning and the families are learning alongside us. Being a strong collaborative partner with our community is always the goal of education. So we continue to persevere and dare mighty things as we all support our children in their learning adventures."
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Sesma-Olinyk
