NOVATO, CA — Novato Parks & Recreation is getting back in the swing of things, just in time for springtime fun. On Thursday, the department announced it has opened registration for new in-person and virtual events, including adult classes like gentle yoga, ballroom dance and iPad/iPhone basics. In a news release, the department said it is also bringing back popular in-person programming for kids: gymnastics, Lego engineering, the Novato chess club, spring break camp and more. The department is also rolling out programming to celebrate upcoming springtime holidays. Leading up to Saint Patrick's Day, Novato-area kids can sign up to receive a letter from a leprechaun by dropping a friendly letter with a return address in the mail slot at the Novato Gymnastics Center. Letters must be dropped in the mail slot at 950 7th Street between March 1 and 12 to receive a response. The parks and recreation department is also hosting an Easter "egg" scavenger hunt at several of its parks from March 28 to April 4. During the scavenger hunt, supervised children are encouraged to search area parks for colorfully painted egg-like rocks. Participants are asked to leave the rocks behind once they are found for the next hunter. Eggs will be hidden at Arroyo Avichi, Hamilton Amphitheater, Hillside Park, Hoog Park, Pioneer Park, South Hamilton and Stafford Grove. Residents who attend in-person events in Novato are reminded to follow coronavirus health and safety protocols including maintaining social distance, wearing a face covering and frequently washing their hands. The department said it is frequently disinfecting surfaces and following other precautionary practices. Residents can register or virtual and in-person events online.
