WOODBURY, MN—The City of Woodbury has partnered with Rainbow Treecare to treat ash trees in Washington County that have been affected by Emerald Ash Borers, city officials said in a Facebook post. Emerald Ash Borers are invasive beetles that destroy ash trees by feeding under their bark. According to the City of Woodbury, the beetles have become one of the most destructive urban forest pests in history. The city of Woodbury said the beetles lay their eggs on branches and inside crevices in the bark of trees. When the eggs hatch, the larvae tunnel underneath the bark to feed, infesting the tree. The city announced Wednesday that through their partnership with Rainbow Treecare, it would be implementing a city-wide treatment program for the ash trees affected by the pests and that the program has treated 1,752 trees in its three years. Washington County is currently under a "quarantine," meaning that residents are not allowed to move ash tree branches or limbs out of the county, due to possible infestation.
