HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park Police Department and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt. INCIDENTS THEFTRepresentatives of the Napa Auto Parts at 2679 Sheridan Road reported on the afternoon of Feb. 4 that a customer had purchased a car battery but became angry when staff refused to install it for him, as is the company's policy. Employees loaned the man a $50 socket set, which he did not return after completing the installation himself. COMMERCIAL BURGLARYSomeone used a sledgehammer to smash the glass front door of the Shell gas station at 2135 Green Bay Road around 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 20. The burglar stole about 15 packs of American Spirit brand menthol cigarettes valued at about $185. Nothing else was reported stolen. Officers determined the smash-and-grabber departed out the broken door and headed north toward First Street. ARRESTS Margaret A. Linnane, 23, of the 1800 block of West Hackberry Lane, Lake Forest, was arrested around 7 p.m. on Feb. 17 after officers were called to the area of Half Day and Skokie Valley roads for a driving complaint. Police reported finding her passed out behind the wheel of a car in a traffic lane. She was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance, a felony. Officers also issued her citations for not displaying a driver's license or driving the minimum speed. Rico E. Williams, 44, of the 7300 block of South Steward Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 2 a.m. on Feb. 21 following a traffic stop in the 2200 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, felony driving with a revoked license, misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol and misdemeanor driving with a revoked license. He has had between three and eight previous revoked license convictions, according to the charge. Officers also issued Williams citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle.
