Description

Press release from the Fremont Police Department: 02/25/2021 7:49 AM On March 1, 2021, two new automated traffic enforcement camera systems will be added in Fremont. Bringing the total number of cameras to 12, the new approaches will be located at the intersections of Christy St, Auto Mall Pkwy, and Pacific Commons Blvd. The Fremont City Council approved the expansion of the program and additional camera systems at its June 16, 2020 meeting. The City of Fremont began its automated red-light enforcement program in August of 2000 and has been very successful in reducing the number of red-light related accidents and associated injuries due to red-light violations. A list of all enforced locations can be found on the Fremont Police Department's web-site at https://fremontpolice.gov/RedLight. The program uses an automated camera system which takes four photographs and a 12 second video capturing the violation, driver and license plate of the vehicle. The camera system only becomes active after the light has turned red. Vehicles crossing the limit line or entering the pedestrian crosswalk after the light has turned red are detected automatically and the camera system records the images. The camera system at Christy St and Auto Mall Pkwy, will capture images of vehicles proceeding westbound. The camera system at Pacific Commons Blvd and Auto Mall Pkwy will capture images of vehicles proceeding northbound. All violators captured during the first 30 days will receive a warning letter notifying them their vehicle was captured violating the red-light at this intersection. The 30-day grace period is only for the intersections of Christy St/Auto Mall Pkwy, and Pacific Commons Blvd/Auto Mall Pkwy. and will end at mid-night on Tuesday March 30, 2021. Violators will begin to receive traffic citations in the mail for violations beginning Wednesday March 31, 2021 and be responsible for paying $490 for each violation.
