BURNSVILLE, MN—Governor Tim Walz announced Wednesday that 11 partnerships with schools in Minnesota, including Burnsville Public Schools, will receive 2021 Youth Skills Training grants. These grants will help to develop and implement paid-learning opportunities for students aged-16 or older, Walz said. The grants are part of a Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry's Youth Skills Training program, which was created to give students employment training in high-growth and high-demand fields, Walz said. "Youth Skills Training grants give Minnesota students hands-on training in the high-demand fields of advanced manufacturing, agriculture, automotive, health care, and information technology," Walz said. "Our state needs talented professionals in these high-growth fields, and these innovative partnerships create career pathways for younger Minnesotans while powering our future." The 11 schools will split $1 million in funding. The grants are able to be used to create programs, provide training, provide transportation, pay for student certifications, and recruit students and employers, Walz said. A fifth round of grant applications will open fall 2021, Walz said.
