DePaul scored the first points and never lost the lead. It was 22-15 after one quarter, 42-24 at half and 64-37 after three quarters, before ending with a 26 point victory for DePaul. After consecutive losses to Creighton and Marquette, the big victory is exactly what the Blue Demons needed as they near the BIG EAST Conference tournament. In Wednesday's press session, Coach Doug Bruno said great teams don't lose two straight like they did. I expect great teams rebound like the Blue Demons did today. They might not be great, but they have the potential to be great. Providence crushed DePaul 34-14 on points in the paint, but the other main categories went to DePaul. The Blue Demons had more points from turnovers (18-14), second chance points (9-4), fast break points (8-2) and points from the bench (19-12). DePaul held a huge advantage in two of the three shooting categories. The Blue Demons shot 46.7% from the field, 55.2% from three point land and 60.0% from the free throw line. Providence shot 36.8%, 11.8% and 71.4% from the three areas. Lexi Held led the Blue Demons with 21 points and five steals. Three other Blue Demons notching double digits were Deja Church (16), Darrione Rogers (13) and Sonya Morris (10). Others in the scoring column included Dee Bekelja (8), Kiara Dallmann (4), Nadage Jean (2) and Jorie Allen (1). Morris grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the team in that category. Providence was led by Mary Baskerville and Alyssa Geary with 12 points each. Olivia Orlando had seven rebounds to pace the team on the boards. DePaul entered the game at No. 24 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 and No. 23 in the USA Today/Coaches poll. Wednesday's loss to Marquette might hurt the team a bit in the rankings, but shouldn't have a big effect overall. DePaul improved to 14-6, 11-4 in BIG EAST Conference play. Their next game, the final game of the regular season, is Monday, March 1 hosting Butler. Coach Doug Bruno and the team are looking to carry the momentum from the big win over Providence to the Butler game aqnd into the BIG EAST Conference tournament which starts Friday, March 5.
