Press release from the Chicago Public Library: February 26, 2021 In celebration of Women's History Month, Drawing Progress: Chicago Newspaper Cartoons and Illinois Women's Suffrage is on display through April 30 in the Popular Library on the ground floor of Harold Washington Library Center.  In 1913, Illinois was the first state east of the Mississippi to grant women the right to vote. This display features political cartoons from the Chicago Daily News and the Chicago Tribune that reflect changing public sentiment in the era of women's suffrage.  You can access historic Chicago newspapers online or on microfilm by appointment.
